Richard Keys makes surprising transfer claim about Man United midfielder Scott McTominay

On deadline day last summer, Manchester United reportedly offered Scott McTominay to West Ham United, according to veteran broadcaster Richard Keys.

McTominay has emerged as United’s top scorer in the Premier League this season and netted the winner against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Although his goals have helped United win an additional 12 points in the league this year, he had the option to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Keys stated that West Ham were only prepared to give £30 million, United were open to proposals for him and the Red Devils were demanding a cost of £40 million.

Keys added that McTominay would have gone to the London Stadium on deadline day if David Moyes had approved a deal, as United were ready to sell to West Ham.

In his blog, he wrote: “I’ll tell you this for a fact – if David Moyes had said ‘yes’ – McTominay would be at West Ham now.

“Moyes chased him all last summer, but couldn’t agree a fee with United.

“They wanted £40m for McTominay – Moyes offered £30m.

“Because he got frustrated, Moyes went shopping elsewhere – only for United to offer the player for £30m on deadline day.

“By then it was too late.

“Ten Hag must be a very happy man that once again fate has served him well.”

There is still uncertainty around McTominay’s future at the club, despite him saving the club with his goals on numerous occasions.

The 27-year old midfielder, despite his stunning goal scoring form, has been unable to find a place in the starting line up after the return of Casemiro and the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
