Manchester United came away from Villa Park on Sunday with three points.

In addition to that, the Reds made ground on Aston Villa in the race for top four, so it worked out as a six pointer all things considered.

It has now emerged that United also received a significant boost in their race for a Premier League top four finish following a huge injury blow to fellow hopefuls Villa.

On Monday, Villa announced that Boubacar Kamara will miss the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Villa have an huge game coming up this weekend away at Fulham.

United’s win cut down Villa’s lead in the Premier League table to five points, and kept Tottenham within touching distance – in fourth place – at six points. If Erik ten Hag’s side can continue to gain momentum in the coming weeks, we will be in a higher league position by the time we travel to Man City.

It remains to be seen if fifth place will grant access to next season’s expanded Champions League.

Aston Villa next 5 Premier League fixtures
