Due to a strike by Greek lawyers, Harry Maguire’s efforts to clear his name more than three years after an alleged vacation attack have been postponed once more.

Following a late-night bar fight in Mykonos, the 30-year-old Manchester United player was taken into custody on a family vacation in August 2020 and convicted of assault and attempted bribery.

The centre-back, who has always fiercely denied any involvement, filed an instant appeal in 2020, overturning the verdicts and bringing up a fresh trial.

However, the complicated issue has been dragged out for more than three years due to his appeal’s frequent delays.

His aspirations of moving past the notorious episode have been crushed once more due to strikes by Greek lawyers.

It will be four and a half years after the alleged assault night before the football player appears in a Greek courtroom again, on March 12, 2025.

The new trial date, 1665 days after the night of the bar fight, was issued far sooner than anticipated, according to an attorney at the Syros appeals court.

“A lot of us want to be done with this case,” insider at the court revealed as reported by The Sun.

“But there is nothing we can do because of this union action. Lawyers can’t be seen to be strike-breakers.”

Maguire was first convicted of attacking police, eluding arrest, and attempting bribery in the aftermath of the altercation outside the Bonbonniere pub in Mykonos.

After being allowed an appeal, the conviction was overturned, however he was nevertheless given a suspended sentence of 21 months and 10 days in jail.

It overturned the first decision and ordered a retrial to be heard by a higher court, which hasn’t happened yet.

First, the Covid epidemic caused a postponement of the retrial. Originally set for June of last year, Maguire’s legal team asked that it be rescheduled.

In the event that he is found guilty in March 2025, his penalty cannot be increased beyond what was originally given.
