Brentford boss Thomas Frank has opened the door for Christian Eriksen to return to the Gtech Community Stadium.

It comes amid rumours of the Danish international being linked with a winter exit from Manchester United after an approach was made by Galatasaray, however, a report from Sky Sports today has confirmed that he will be staying at Old Trafford ‘until the summer’.

From then, it remains to be seen where Eriksen’s future lies as he adjusts to playing a reduced role under Erik ten Hag, having only made nine Premier League starts in total this term. Injuries have been a mitigating factor in his lack of game time, although he was an unused substitute in the Reds’ past two matches.

United’s depth in midfield along with the emergence of teenage starlet Kobbie Mainoo would have undoubtedly left Eriksen mulling over his future as, at 31 years old, he’ll be expecting to see his name on the teamsheet week in, week out.

He previously bemoaned the situation after a Champions League clash last October, telling TNT Sports’ Fred Caldeira: “Ask the manager why I’m starting on the bench, that’s out of my hands. Obviously, I want to play as much as possible… obviously the manager is looking the other way.”

Quizzed on the prospect of bringing the experienced playmaker, whose contract runs until June 2025, back to West London, Frank welcomed the idea with open arms.

“He will always be welcome back! Christian will always be,” he told Tipsbladet. “I think he knows that well. And we know he had a good time here.

“I understood well why he went to United back then, and I’ve said that publicly. I also think he’s done well. Of course, he had an injury before Christmas for a while. But if Christian wants, he’s very welcome.”
