£240k-a-week United hero unlikely to be offered bumper contract with wage increase under INEOS ownership

When the Premier League are finished ratifying Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent stake in Manchester United, supporters will finally be able to see what the Englishman is planning to implement at the club.

The next transfer window is likely to be a pivotal one for the Red Devils, as the board begins to operate under INEOS’ ownership and guidance.

Whether or not this means blockbuster, statement signings remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that Ratcliffe will want to start on the right foot, especially given fans’ vocal contempt towards the Glazer family.

One thing that the businessman is reportedly intending to do is tackle the club’s eye-watering wage bill; 31-year-old Casemiro is currently the highest earner on a whopping £350,000 per week, followed by Raphael Varane (30) on £340,000.

Contract talks scheduled for the skipper

As per Football Insider, United have scheduled contract talks with pivotal midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, whose current terms expire in 2026 – though the club have the option to extend it by a further year.

However, he is unlikely to be offered an increase on his £240,000 weekly salary due to the new rules, despite being promoted to club captain in 2023 and being a mainstay in Erik ten Hag’s starting 11.
