‘Sometimes I think…’: Ian Wright voices one criticism of ‘confident’ United starlet despite prolific form

Alejandro Garnacho is perhaps in the most prolific form of his Manchester United career thus far, but Ian Wright still harbours a slight concern over the youngster’s game.

Garnacho has become a mainstay in Erik ten Hag’s starting 11 as of late, with his appearance against West Ham United marking a 19th consecutive start in all competitions.

He now ranks above the likes of £86 million Antony and even Marcus Rashford on some occasions after proving he is capable of performing on either flank. The Argentine international has returned an impressive seven goals – five of which have come in the Premier League – and two assists.

His latest contribution was a brace against the Irons to round off a much-needed 3-0 victory on home turf and it’s the second time this season that Garnacho has notched a double in a league match, having done so in the Reds’ triumphant comeback win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day, which he was pivotal in.

Wright’s criticism of Garnacho

Reacting to United’s Old Trafford showing on Sunday, Wright highlighted one aspect of Garnacho’s play style that he believes lets him down slightly.

“A lot of people saying about his impact when he does come off, but I do find that when he is playing, then he does the same thing all the time,” Wright said of the teenager on Premier League Productions“He is trying to take people on. He is having shots when sometimes I think he could pass it.

“But, in this instance, West Ham, they have given Man United so much time and so much space. So many mistakes. Maybe he should show him down the line. When he does come back, then you have to defend that and wipe that shot off. He then gets his deflection and he has got his bit of luck. At the same time, they made it quite easy for him.

“In respect of Garnacho, he is somebody that is highly confident, great pace and an eye for goal. With the structure of Man United now, they look like quite a dangerous prospect.”
