Manchester United fans, players and the manager are all fearing the worst regarding Lisandro Martinez’s condition.

After spending four months on the sidelines nursing a re-aggravation of the metatarsal injury which ended his 2022/2023 campaign prematurely, Martinez was withdrawn early with an injury scare in just his fourth match back in action yesterday.

The Argentine collided with West Ham United’s Vladimir Coufal and ended up taking the weight of his opponent on his leg, leaving him writhing in pain and requiring medical attention.

Martinez briefly attempted to resume his involvement in the match before ending up back on the floor with his arms covering his face. He was subsequently replaced by Raphael Varane around the 70th-minute mark and headed straight down the tunnel to receive further treatment.

How United reacted to Martinez’s injury

Erik ten Hag provided a damning verdict post-match, telling reporters (via Shamoon Hafez): “It seems bad, we have to wait and make the right diagnosis. In this moment we are very sad, hopefully, it is not too bad but we can only pray. It looks like he has to sit some games out injured again.”

His teammates were quick to rally around him on the pitch and will continue to do so off of it; Diogo Dalot sent Martinez a message post-match on Instagram, saying: “Your pain is our pain. You will be back soon my brother.”
