Borussia Dortmund chief downplays permanent Jadon Sancho deal

Borussia Dortmund have acknowledged that securing a permanent deal for Jadon Sancho is going to be a difficult task.

The 23-year-old, who fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag after a public spat earlier this season, re-joined the Bundesliga outfit last month on a six-month loan agreement that runs until the end of the current campaign.

Since arriving at Signal Iduna Park last month, Sancho has registered two assists but missed their recent match with Heidenheim on Friday night due to a muscle problem.

Dortmund’s sporing director Sebastian Kehl has now admitted that the chances of signing Sancho on a permanent deal are slim.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Kehl said: “Unfortunately for both players [Ian Maatsen and Sancho], neither option was really realistic. If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might now be very, very difficult.

“We naturally advocated for an option with him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.”

It remains to be seen where Sancho will be playing his football next season, but for United’s sake I hope he scores plenty of goals between now and end of the season. That way we can maximise his value in the transfer market (not that we’ll be making any profit).

At least his return has helped Dortmund lift themselves back into a Champions League qualification spot.

Let us know where you think Sancho will move next in the comments section if he doesn’t sign a permanent deal at Dortmund.
