‘A generational talent’: Hojlund can’t speak highly enough of Mainoo after match-winning heroics

Rasmus Hojlund put in a spirited shift against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight and notched a third goal in three straight Premier League matches.

The young Dane was quick to share the praise though following the full-time whistle as despite his superb showing, it’ll undoubtedly be Kobbie Mainoo that’s taking the headlines tomorrow after his injury-time herocis.

Since being granted regular starts in the first team, Mainoo has looked mature beyond his years when up against such experienced and senior opposition. The 18-year-old took it one step further tonight when displaying elite composure to shimmy past the Wolves defence and score a 97th-minute winner to send the travelling Reds into hysterics – as well as his teammates and manager!

He, along with Hojlund, has supporters incredibly optimistic about the future of the squad and the upward trajectories of the youngsters’ development.

Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Hojlund shared his glowing verdict of Mainoo, saying: “I didn’t really get to see him in the pre-season because I wasn’t there, but all the others lads were speaking about him saying, ‘This guy, he’s an incredible talent…a generational talent’. I could see he has a nice body type, he’s very mature already in his personality as well. He’s very calm. Also outside the pitch, he’s just a nice and relaxed guy. You can just see he’s very composed and he knows his quality, and again today he showed it.

“Only 18 years old… I thought I was young, now he’s stepping up at the age of 18!” the striker added.
