Gareth Southgate to seek assurances about Marcus Rashford ahead of England selection

England manager Gareth Southate will ‘seek assurances’ about Marcus Rashford’s well-being ahead of naming his next England squad.

The Manchester United forward hit the headlines for the wrong reasons after a night out in Belfast led to him missing training on Friday.

Rashford missed Sunday’s 4-2 win over Newport County but a meeting took place on Monday morning and it is understood the player apologised to Erik ten Hag – before being fined two weeks’ wages, as per the Daily Star.

Everyone at United will hope Rashford will react by pulling up his socks and trying to have more impact on the pitch. Otherwise, he runs the risk of losing his place in the England squad, with Gareth Southgate naming his next Three Lions selection next month for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March.

Southgate could now decide to drop Rashford unless the forward’s form proves between now and the end of the season. The England manager will also be thinking about his squad for the European Championships.

United fans won’t care about Rashford’s selection worries when it comes to England. We are only concerned about his form in a United shirt, and it must improve.
