Omar Berrada to help identify Manchester United’s new director of football

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team are in the process of reshaping Manchester United’s structure and the next step will be to appoint a new director of football.

According to The Telegraph, a director of football will be revealed in the next few weeks as United considered the leading candidates. The report also states that Ineos wanted Omar Berrada, who was recently appointed as chief executive, in place so he could have some input into the decision.

An array of highly respected individuals have been linked with the job – from Newcastle’s director of football Dan Ashworth to former Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward. Other names include Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman and Paul Mitchell, formerly head of recruitment at Tottenham who had a similar role at AS Monaco.

When it comes to directors living further abroad, United are thought to have considered the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta, Cristiano Giuntoli from Juventus, Lee Congerton at Atalanta and Ricky Masara and Paul Maldini.

It makes perfect sense to have our new CEO involved in the decision process for a new director of football since he will need to share a similar vision, along with the manager.

The Telegraph’s James Ducker also states that Berrada and the incoming director of football will ultimately be the ones to determine the fate of Erik ten Hag as manager.
