Roy Keane, who rates Douglas Luiz as “very very good” player, says he’s not shocked that Arsenal are interested in him.
The Aston Villa midfielder, who has seven goals and seven assists in all competitions, has been one of Unai Emery’s unsung heroes this season.
Although Ollie Watkins, who has scored 14 goals already this season, has garnered much of the attention, Luiz has been essential in Villa’s success in the Premier League this season, as the team is now in third place, two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
The Brazilian midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer and Keane says he’s not surprised considering how good the midfielder is.
“He turns up every week this player,” said Keane.
“Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.
“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins.
“But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe.
“In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good.”
Luiz left Manchester City in 2019 and joined Villa in a £15million move back in 2019. The midfielder has become a key player for Villa in the last four and a half years.
Luiz has made 181 appearances for the team, contributing 19 goals and 21 assists.
