Anthony Martial’s agent returns from Turkey unable to strike a deal

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that Anthony Martial isn’t the most popular figure at Manchester United. The Frenchman might be Joel Glazer’s all-time favourite football, but that tells you everything they know about the beautiful game.

The 28-year-old’s contract will expire in the summer and he is expected to stay at the club until then, even though most fans would prefer to see the back of him this month.

Martial is one of the club’s highest earners, despite being rarely available and it’s been a long time since he’s been at his best on the pitch.

The former AS Monaco forward has managed just 90 goals in 317 appearances for United, which works out at a goal every three-and-a-half games.

A report from Sky Sports earlier this week suggested Martial had rejected interest from elsewhere in January because he plans to stay at United until the end of his contract.

However, a new claim from journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu suggests Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley had negotiations in Turkish cities Istanbul and Adana but could not get results.

Lamboley has since returned from his trip.

Unfortunately, it sounds like we are going to have to put up with Martial for the remainder of the season. I wonder if he’ll bother to play again…
