According to former Chelsea midfielder Robert Huth, England manager Gareth Southgate would not turn down a move to Manchester United should he, as is expected, leave the Three Lions role after Euro 2024.
Huth isn’t someone who talks regularly about United, but since he is now speaking to betting firms in return of a salary, we suspect he’ll be popping up a bit more often these days.
Perhaps annoyingly so…
Speaking to Instant Casino, as per the Manchester Evening News, Huth gave his view on the matter (for what it’s worth): “It massively depends on his workload, when you’re an international manager you’re not on the pitch every day and working quite as intimately with the players because you get a limited period of time with the players each break. If he does go back in that could be a massive shock to the system.
“Sometimes you need to be harsh and say it as it is. I don’t know if that is what Manchester United need, because I just don’t know where they are at the moment. They’ve had successful managers in the past, but they haven’t worked out for whatever reason either. It is a difficult one to work out, but I am sure Gareth would go for it if the situation were to arise. Not many managers turn down Manchester United, that is for sure.”
I don’t know about you, but I would be absolutely baffled if INEOS decided to replace Erik ten Hag with Southgate.
The fact of the matter is there aren’t many managers who would turn down the United job.
