‘Coming home’: Jadon Sancho says he can’t wait to play with a smile on his face after completing Dortmund return

Jadon Sancho has issued a rallying statement to Borussia Dortmund supporters after re-joining the club on loan from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has not featured in a competitive football match since August 26, following which he was involved in a widely-covered feud with manager Erik ten Hag that saw him exiled from all first-team action and facilities.

Since the incident began, Sancho has been eagerly anticipating his first opportunity to exit Old Trafford and now, he’s done just that. Both clubs announced today that the player will spend the second half of the campaign at the Signal Iduna Park; there is no buy option included in the loan terms, so it remains to be seen where his future lies beyond the summer.

Having overseen the most prolific form of his career in Germany, Sancho will be hoping to revitalise his currently stagnant career in familiar surroundings. Throughout his four years in black and yellow, he scored 50 goals and assisted a further 64 across 137 appearances.

Sancho reacts to Dortmund return

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’,” the winger told the BVB website. “I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
