Ally McCoist believes that club captain Bruno Fernandes has been the best player for Manchester United this season.
The Portuguese international has been once again the star of the show at Old Trafford in what has been a season to forget for Erik ten Hag’s side.
The Red Devils are currently in eighth place in the Premier League, knocked out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
When most players have failed to perform in a difficult season for the club, Bruno Fernandes has still done much better than others and scored five goals and provided six assists in all competitions.
While speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said that the club captain is being let down by his teammates.
McCoist said: “He’s probably been their best player, which you’ve got to take into account given United haven’t been good. I think he would be a top player at a top team.
“I think he’s being dragged down a little bit, his surroundings and everything that’s going on has maybe brought him down a little bit. I think he would be the last one in the United team I’d point a finger out.”
After Fernandes’ arrival at Old Trafford over four years ago, the Portuguese star has been without a doubt United’s best player by some distance in that time.
If United are to ever reach their peak days, the 29-year old would need the support of other players at the club. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who are experienced and have performed at the top level before, should contribute more than what they are doing at the moment.
