Rio Ferdinand has given his opinion on the Jadon Sancho-Erik ten Hag feud

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand thinks that Jadon Sancho’s expulsion from the team is the consequence of something that “went on behind the scenes” between the player and manager Erik ten Hag.

Ferdinand did not have a definitive answer when he was asked whether Sancho should apologise to ten Hag after their public feud.

Sancho, who signed for £73million in 2021, is close to leaving the club now with an agreement with his former club Borussia Dortmund close to getting completed.

The English star last played for Man United back in August in United’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest. ten Hag criticised his performance levels in training to which Sancho publicly answered back through his Twitter account.

While speaking on the Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE podcast, the former Premier League defender assessed the circumstances of the feud by placing himself in manager Erik ten Hag’s and Sancho’s shoes.

‘The manager might be sitting there, if you look at it from his side, I’ve exhausted every single element of my managerial skills and experience to try and get this player to play,’ he said.

‘And I can’t get it out of him. So he’s manufactured a way in which he’s got him to a point in which he’s going to be going on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

‘Yes there’s been public showings of discontent from the manager. But I just feel that there’s been stuff that’s gone on behind the scenes.

He added: ‘He’s obviously been bought to that because I think there’s frustration.

“I’ve been trying. I’ve let you go to Amsterdam. I’ve give you this. I’ve done this. But I’m still not getting the response I need. So I’m going to go public and see how you respond.”‘
