Manchester United have broken the deadlock after 22 minutes in their third-round FA Cup tie versus Wigan Athletic.
An unlikely scorer managed to find the opener in the form of fullback Diogo Dalot, who has started on the left side of defence in Luke Shaw’s absence.
United had overseen a flurry of attacks go astray in the opening 20 minutes, so Erik ten Hag will be thankful that they have taken a relatively early lead to ensure they don’t make the night more difficult for themselves as the tie progresses.
Marcus Rashford played the ball to the arriving Dalot at the edge of the box, where the Portugal defender then fired in a sublime curling finish – an unsavable one for Sam Tickle between the sticks.
