Manchester United and Aston Villa involved in a race to sign 23-year old striker

Lille striker Jonathan David is a target for Manchester United and Aston Villa in the January transfer window, FootballTransfers can confirmed.

The Red Devils are looking to sign a new striker in the transfer window after new signing Rasmus Hojlund’s constant struggles throughout the season.

The former Atalanta striker has only scored just one Premier League goal all season after his big money move from Serie A.

The Canadian forward David is the latest name to be linked to United as they aim to add more players to their squad in the transfer window this month.

David has stated that he is ready to leave Lille, and in the next weeks, a deal with either Manchester United or Villa—both of which are looking for a center-forward with his abilities—may be reached.

Out of all the teams in the top half of the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s club has scored the fewest goals and scoring is an issue that the team has faced all season. Failure to address this problem in the January transfer window could completely destroy United’s season.

United looked at David throughout the summer as an alternative for Harry Kane, who left for Bayern Munich after they were priced out of a deal to sign the England captain.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are looking to provide striker Ollie Watkins with more help, who has scored nine goals this season. He has been a star performer for them this season and getting him support could take his game to a new level.

In 24 appearances this season for the French club, David has scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists.

  1. Being Canadian and a MU fan for over 53 years this would MAKE my day! JD is very versatile and I think would work well with Garno,Rash and Rasmus. FANTASY lineups are great but this reality would set us up for a few years. Maybe we can get Alphonso Davies from Bayern as well! That would make my LIFE COMPLETE. (he he)

  2. why would a player with exciting skills want to go to a team with no direction, no game plan, full of wanna be stars like Man UTd? why not go to the up and coming Villa who are showing such aptitude for an exciting game and lots of potential for trophys?
