Just before the turn of the year, it was announced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had acquired 25% of the club in a deal that saw the Glazer family relinquish the biggest chunk of their ownership since they gained majority control almost 20 years ago.

The Glazer family will still hold enough shares to control the club but it has been reported that Ratcliffe, who grew up as a United supporter, will assume responsibility for the club’s football operations.

The deal must, however, be ratified by the Premier League before Ratcliffe is allowed to make any changes but if reports are to be believed, he has already begun stringing plans together.

According to The Sun, Ratcliffe is keen on negotiating a deal to trim Casemiro’s wages due to the Brazil international’s high compensation.

Casemiro has two-and-a-half years remaining on the £350,000 per week deal he signed in 2022 but United’s financials are not in the best state to support that.

United could look to save some cash in other areas as well, with fringe players more likely than ever to be moved on. In the past, United have been reluctant to cut their losses but that has led to greater financial loss further down the line.

Anthony Martial has just six months remaining on his contract and it is likely that he will be allowed to leave for nothing in the summer.

Jadon Sancho is set to join Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the campaign and his future will be reassessed in the summer, with a permanent departure still possible.
