The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has rescinded the red card given to Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood on Tuesday night.

Referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez gave Greenwood a straight red card after wrongly assuming that the Getafe forward had told him to ‘f*** off’ after he was fouled.

Getafe appealed the decision using video evidence and demonstrated that Greenwood said ‘one, two, three, four [fouls], f***’.

Once the referee heard Greenwood drop the f-bomb, he assumed that is was directed at him, which it was without actually telling him to f-off.

The RFEF admit wrongdoing on their part and wiped any suspension for Greenwood, so he won’t miss any of Getafe’s upcoming games.

It comes as a relief to Getafe because Greenwood has been one of their key players this season.

“The repeated viewing of the images, in fact, allowed this Commission to conclude, beyond any doubt, that the action that led to the expulsion did not occur as described by the referee,” reads a statement, provided by Tuttomercatoweb.

“And, ultimately, (the images) prove the material error in the referee’s report. These images demonstrate that the player actually said ‘One, two, three, four, (and then a particular four-letter swear word), as the club specifies in its letter and as the sworn translator refers in her report.”
