United and Liverpool will go head-to-head for Germany stalwart if contract fiasco continues – report

Manchester United and Liverpool will reportedly go head-to-head in pursuit of Bayern Munich stalwart Joshua Kimmich if he opts to leave Germany before his contract expires, according to AS.

The German’s deal is set to conclude in 2025, meaning the 2024 summer window would be Bayern’s last chance to recoup any sort of fee for the midfield powerhouse if he does not agree to an extension or new terms.

As such, the two Premier League rivals are seemingly ready to test Bayern’s resolve with bids at the end of the current campaign. Barcelona are also interested in acquiring Kimmich’s services but given their financial situation, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to match the prospective offers on the table.

Manchester City had been linked with the 28-year-old in past years and if it was up to the player, he could be swayed towards a reunion with Pep Guardiola and the opportunity to win almost guaranteed silverware in England. The coach’s contract at the Etihad runs until the summer of 2025, though he has hinted at extending his tenure with the reigning Premier League champions.

Kimmich’s illustrious honours list at Bayern

Since joining the Bundesliga giants in 2015, Kimmich has been an irreplaceable, influential cog at the heart of the team each week. He has won eight league titles, six DFL Supercups, three DFB Pokals, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup and a Champions League, the latter of which rounded off a treble-winning season for the Bavarian side.
