Instead of triggering the one-year extension in Aaron Wan Bissaka’s contract, Manchester United are in negotiations with him about a new contract.
HITC Football has reported that United are interested in offering the former Crystal Palace defender a new deal at the club.
The right-back position at Old Trafford has been up for debate with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both fighting for a spot to play in the starting XI.
Sources have revealed that the club is happy with Wan-Bissaka’s progress and they want to extend his stay at the club.
The Englishman had a poor start last season, but Erik ten Hag brought him back into the starting lineup in the second half, and the former Crystal Palace right-back was excellent.
Talks are underway between both the club and the player. Man United want to offer him a longer contract but by offering him a wage that is lower than what he is earning right now. Wan-Bissaka’s camp is happy with the offer and they intend to accept it.
The Red Devils have looked at several options at the right-back position with Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries and Girona defender Arnau Martinez believed to be of interest.
The club now feels that the most sensible option is to keep Wan-Bissaka with Dalot at the club. The Portuguese right-back recently put pen to paper on a new contract.
In addition to Wan-Bissaka, HITC Football has reported that the Red Devils are negotiating with Hannibal Mejbri’s team to sign him to a longer-term deal.
