Manchester United have confirmed that young striker Charlie McNeill has returned to the Reds following his loan spell at Stevenage.

The 20-year-old joined the League One side in September and scored on his debut against Leyton Orient, but he only made two further appearances which led to United’s decision to call him back.

According to the Manchester Evening News, it’s likely that McNeill will be sent out on loan again to a different club this month.

Every academy player who leaves United on loan has a recall break clause that can be activated after six months, which gives the club a chance to assess whether it’s best for the youngster to stay on loan or not.

It was clear that we needed to take McNeill out of Stevenage because he was getting nothing out of the loan deal.

The aim will be to find McNeill a club where he will get opportunities to develop as a first team player. He didn’t get the chance to do that at Stevenage and it beggars belief why they took him in the first place.
