Erik ten Hag has voiced his unwavering faith in Rasmus Hojlund as the forward looks to kick on after hitting a personal milestone against Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old’s 14-game wait for a Premier League goal finally drew to a close in his 15th outing of the term, when he netted the winner on Boxing Day to seal a crucial three points against the rampant Villans.
Prior to Hojlund acquiring his maiden contribution, questions were beginning to be asked over his lack of impact in the league. In Europe, he’d already proven his prolific abilities by finding the back of the net five times in six Champions League games – though they ultimately ended up being in vain when United exited the competition at the group stage.
Throughout the Dane’s tedious wait, he always retained the backing of his manager, who pushed the board to complete the £72 million signing of Hojlund over the summer.
Ten Hag backs Hojlund to add to PL tally
Now, Ten Hag is adamant that the frontman will kick on and find his form, with the pressure of a debut goal off his shoulders.
“I have to repeat myself, I trust him. I know his goals in the Champions League showed what he did as a young player in Denmark, in Austria, in Italy and he is a very strong character,” Ten Hag said of Hojlund in Friday’s pre-match press conference, as quoted by ManUtd.com.
“But, of course, this goal will give him confidence and belief that he is going to score, and he is going to score more goals from this point on.”
