Mount, Amrabat and Shaw latest: Early United team news for Nottingham Forest trip

Manchester United will be looking to build on their triumphant Boxing Day victory when they take to the City Ground this Saturday.

The Reds tackle 16th-placed Nottingham Forest and they’ll undoubtedly still be reeling off the back of their shock 3-1 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, which came courtesy of a Chris Wood hat-trick.

Steve Cooper’s sacking on December 20 will have forced Erik ten Hag to rethink his plans for this weekend’s clash, with Nuno Espirito Santo now taking the reins as he looks to keep Forest in the top flight after a lacklustre string of results.

As for the Dutchman’s options, he’ll be hoping to have Luke Shaw and Sofyan Amrabat back at his disposal after they missed the Villa clash through what was considered ‘minor issues’. Diogo Dalot and Christian Eriksen were deployed in the duo’s absence.

Mason Mount returned to individual training at Carrington on Wednesday morning, stepping up his recovery from a calf injury that’s kept him sidelined for around five weeks. The Midlands contest will likely come too soon for him to feature though, as previous reports have suggested that he’ll make his comeback in the new year.

Youngster Amad Diallo has been training with the squad for several weeks following a knee injury that he sustained in the pre-season tour. He is yet to feature for United this term and seemingly, the club are being patient with him in order to avoid any further problems.

Current absentees at Carrington

Anthony Martial has been suffering with an illness for United’s previous three games and it remains to be seen if he’ll be deemed fit enough to make the squad, however, Rasmus Hojlund would still presumably be preferred ahead of the Frenchman in the starting 11.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are all confirmed to/expected to miss out, with the latter having recently undergone surgery to correct a groin issue.
