Mason Mount took part in an individual training session at Carrington on Wednesday morning as he steps up his recovery from a calf injury.
The midfielder will be looking to make his return in the new year, having been sidelined since Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town on November 11.
Mount, 24, arrived at Old Trafford in the summer on a £60 million package move from Chelsea, ending his 18-year association with the London outfit. Since then though, he’s made just eight Premier League appearances in red, only four of which have been from the start.
A hamstring problem saw Mount miss a spell at the beginning of the campaign and he made just two appearances – including his United debut – before being dealt a layoff for around four weeks. Then, he’d fallen slightly out of favour upon his return to the squad, starting two league matches before being benched and used as a substitute for the subsequent four games.
Mount’s impending return to action
Now, the Englishman will be hoping to fight for a starting role under Erik ten Hag amidst the fierce competition in the middle of the pitch. Given next year’s Euro 2024 tournament, game-time will be crucial for Mount if wants to be on the receiving end of a call-up from Gareth Southgate.
