Lee Sharpe has backed Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United to join David Moyes at West Ham.
The England international has performed well for the Reds well called upon this season, but he was close to leaving in the summer, and West Ham were one of the clubs most keen on signing him then.
Although a deal never materialised, former United winger Lee Sharpe believes it would be a great move for the centre-back in January. He told The Express: “I don’t know Harry Maguire, I don’t know what the manager talks to him about, I don’t know if he’s sort of thinking behind what’s going on.
“But I look at a West Ham move on the surface and think what a great move it would be. I know West Ham struggled a bit last year, but that was probably due to being in Europe for the first time in a while.
“They’ve come back again and looked decent this year. They’ll always have a decent team. David Moyes is a really good manager, and he [Maguire] would benefit from playing under David Moyes in a team like West Ham.”
It would take a good offer from the Hammers because Maguire’s performances this season certainly don’t warrant a cheap price tag and Moyes knows what he would be getting in the established England star.
Maguire played 13 games on the bounce for United prior to his recent injury. During that period, he won the Player of the Month award in November.
United will sell Maguire if the price is right
If United receive the right offer for Maguire, they’ll accept the transfer fee and find a more suited replacement. Erik ten Hag didn’t fancy Maguire in the summer and he had his reasons.
Thankfully, Maguire is a model professional and leads by example. He didn’t let this knock him and has put in a number of impressive performances at the back this season.
Right when we needed him.

The only other side with eight shots on target in the first half of a Premier League game this season was Newcastle against Sheffield United in September. That ended 8-0. This arguably should be 8-0 already.
