Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition at Manchester United to be announced today

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempt to buy 25% of Manchester United has been hampered by delays for some time, but it is expected that an announcement will be made today. On Christmas Eve!

According to Sky News editor Mark Kleinman, who has covered the deal closely, Ratcliffe’s acquisition will be announced today – 13 months after the Glazer family launched a strategic review.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos Sports will take control of the football side, as reported by The Times, which could mean there is no involvement on that side of things from Joel Glazer.

Other members of the media are now hearing the same thing – that there will be some big announcement, though the club has yet to pass any comment on the matter.

The British chemicals billionaire and the Glazer family had agreed on the broad terms to buy a non-controlling stake in November, but a formal announcement has been repeatedly pushed back.

The Financial Times states that one of the obstacles has been how United’s public shareholders would be treated in any future transactions between Ratcliffe and the Glazers.
