Ten Hag names which players should be contributing more when quizzed on Hojlund’s PL goal drought

Erik ten Hag isn’t fretting over Rasmus Hojlund’s goal drought and is instead focusing on all of his squad stepping up to the mark in terms of contributions.

The young Dane will enter tomorrow’s match against West Ham United desperately seeking his maiden Premier League goal, having already made 13 appearances in the division.

He has, however, proven his prolific striking abilities on the European stage, finishing the Champions League group phase as one of the joint-top ‘scorers with five to his name.

Given that United sought Hojlund on an eye-watering £72 million package, it’s evident why pressure continues to mount on his shoulders with each blank match week.

Aside from him though, one look at the league table shows that the squad – as a whole – aren’t anywhere near the level of finishing they should be at. The Reds, now resigned to more of a top-four race than title race, have scored just 18 goals – the fewest of any side in the top-14 teams.

They’ve also conceded 21, leaving United with a goal difference of negative three and making them the only club in the top-eight to be in the minus.

Ten Hag demands more from squad

When asked about Hojlund’s tedious wait to find the back of the net, Ten Hag told the media (via ManUtd.com): “I think his mentality is great. I think he is a very good performer under stress, and he deals with that. But it’s not only about Rasmus Hojlund, it’s about Marcus Rashford, it’s also about Antony, it’s also about Bruno Fernandes, it’s about Scott McTominay.

“There are many [players who can score]. Don’t forget our full-backs, who have to be a big part in that. I’m sure we work on that fact as a group, from offensive players who are contributing there or should contribute there and I’m sure we will improve, especially if our squad is full. It’s then better in balance and we should create more chances.”
