Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have joined three of their league rivals in pursuit of Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho, as per 90min.
Xabi Alonso’s scintillating Leverkusen side have defied all odds this term to ignite a remarkable 25-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, becoming the first team in German football history to do so. They will spend Christmas firmly cemented atop the table, boasting a four-point lead over second-placed Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen have now reportedly registered their interest in Sancho, along with rivals Stuttgart (third), RB Leipzig (fourth) and Borussia Dortmund (fifth), with the latter – his former club – deemed the player’s ‘most likely destination’.
A return to the Signal Iduna Park would see the 23-year-old play Champions League football in the second half of the campaign, with Edin Terzic’s side being drawn to Eredivisie high-flyers PSV in the Round of 16.
Sancho nearing Old Trafford exit
United are keen to offload Sancho next month to a club that’s willing to cover a portion of his eye-watering £250,000 per week salary, as well as accept an obligation to buy clause – should he initially depart on a loan transfer.
Undoubtedly the most prolific era of the winger’s career, Sancho will be hoping to reignite his Germany form and make up for lost time. Throughout his four years in Dortmund’s senior squad, he registered an impressive 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances.
