Kobbie Mainoo receiving high praise from pundits is becoming a common occurrence now, with plaudits flowing in after every outing he makes.

The Manchester United starlet was granted third Premier League start on Sunday, being named in the starting 11 of an injury-plagued Red Devils team to face Liverpool. His inclusion rounded off a pretty unbelievable baptism of fire for the youngster, as all of his starts have been away at Goodison Park, St. James’ Park and Anfield – three of the most raucous and atmospheric stadiums in the top flight.

Mainoo took every second of each of them in his stride, not once looking out of place amongst some of the most highly-rated names that the league has to offer. Fans have been quick to note how the teenager, despite his significant lack of experience compared to his teammates, is calmness personified in the middle of the park.

While it’s only the start of the 18-year-old’s promotion to the senior squad, it’s safe to say that he’s already been categorised as one of the hottest prospects Carrington has to offer, and the Old Trafford faithful are counting their blessings that he’s one of their own.

Richards lauds Mainoo

Micah Richards put rivalries aside to heap praise on the young Red, saying on the latest instalment of The Rest Is Football podcast: “We have to mention Kobbie Mainoo, though, don’t we? He has been outstanding. The games that he has played in away from home, big games. He did well at Everton, I think I remember that game.”

“He did well against Liverpool,” Richards continued. “Getting on the ball and just doing the basic things, nothing too extravagant, just doing the basics really well, tackling when he needs to, right positions, he is obviously comfortable on the ball, he took no risks.

“He has a really level, mature performance, and I just thought that he was outstanding.”
