Erik ten Hag has sent a defiant message to the media as pressure continues to mount on his shoulders over Manchester United’s form.
As it stands, there are real concerns over whether the Dutchman will see out the season in the dugout at Old Trafford. Each loss seemingly sets or breaks an unwanted record, and Wednesday night saw the Red Devils exit Europe in a humiliating fashion after claiming four points of the 18 available in the group stage.
Ten Hag, navigating just the second year of his tenure, continues to have the backing of large portions of the fanbase, however, it’s no secret that many supporters have lost faith in the manager.
Taking the reins of England’s most successful football club throws you into the spotlight from the second you accept the role and instantaneously makes your position one of the most scrutinised there is.
Ten Hag issues defiant message
Ten Hag is well aware of this, and will undoubtedly be keeping tabs on the reports circulating the media, but reaffirmed his stance in Friday’s pre-match press conference, saying: “I’m focusing on the process, making the team better and that’s my concern. That’s what I’m focusing on, the right thing, and that’s the team. There is no concern because I’m here to win and I have to make the team play better.
“Good is not good enough, we are inconsistent and I have to work on how the team will play.”
