Jonny Evans has issued a vote of confidence for under-fire Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag by telling the club to back the Dutchman with new recruits in the upcoming transfer window.

Most United fans are desperate for Ten Hag to succeed at United and we knew there would be bumps along the road, though nobody saw this season being as bad as it has been – with United sat sixth in the Premier League, out of Europe and the Carabao Cup.

Pressure is mounting on Ten Hag as a result but, as fans, we’re firmly behind the manager to eventually get the wins we need to get us through the season.

Jonny Evans played 50 minutes in the 1-0 midweek defeat at Old Trafford after Harry Maguire limped off injured and has called on Ten Hag to be given time to get things right on the pitch.

Speaking to Norwegian outlet FotbollSkanalen, Evans gave his full backing to Ten Hag, saying: “He [Ten Hag] is a fantastic coach and I have no doubts about him.

“In January we get a new window and a chance to improve the team. Not playing in Europe will give him more time.

“We’ve a tough period but hopefully, we’ll get players back from injuries and get more consistency in the team It would be good for him [Ten Hag].”

Evans, who is part of the squad, can see that Ten Hag needs more quality in the squad and that would certainly help at a time we are not getting good results on the pitch. It remains to be seen if United will have much money — or any — to spend in January after crashing out of the Champions League this week.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where sports journalists feed on negativity and they will be waiting for us to collapse against Liverpool at the weekend. That means the vultures will be out to play on Sunday, so hopefully the lads on the pitch can prevent that from happening by honouring the badge on their chest.
