Scott McTominay stresses Manchester United players are fully behind the manager

Scott McTominay has stressed the Manchester United dressing room is fully behind manager Erik ten Hag.

After losing 3-0 to Bournemouth at the weekend, United face a huge week of fixtures against Bayern Munich and Liverpool. The game against Bayern is a ‘do or die’ attempt to stay in the Champions League.

Ten Hag’s side then go to Anfield on Sunday where they were humiliated 7-0 in March. Liverpool will be waiting to inflict further pain on the Dutchman.

There has been a few briefings from the dressing room in recent weeks to suggest unrest was growing in the camp. However, McTominay has come out to insist Ten Hag has the support of the players.

“It is the players’ responsibility, first and foremost, the players know that as well,” Ten Hag said, as per the Daily Mail. “We have had many amazing players and right now we are at the stage where we have big characters in the dressing room.

“It is not just a case of like some of the other managers where it has been a little bit toxic at times, the boys are firmly behind the manager. That is the way it will stay.

“We have got an amazing coaching staff as well so it can get lost in translation with what the players think and what is said behind closed doors, we just want to do well for the football club.”

McTominay explained how Ten Hag has been able to resurrect his Old Trafford career after previously having doubts over whether he would be sold by his boyhood club.

“There’s always speculation and different things surrounding every player,” he added. “You have to perform to stay there, I’ve known that since being a young boy watching the senior pros here and the academy players. For me, it was get my head down and work hard.

“The faith in the manager has been a massive one for me. You want to repay that when you get minutes. That’s the life of a footballer, you will get ups and downs, and it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. When I get the opportunity I want to take it.”
