Romano provides promising update for United’s plans in January window as two positions could be strengthened

Erik ten Hag has publicly stated that Manchester United are unlikely to make any new additions in the January transfer window, however, Fabrizio Romano does not believe this to be the case.

The Dutch manager is expected to keep tight-lipped on the transfer front but amidst an ever-growing list of debilitating injury woes for the Red Devils, bolstering the squad for the second half of the campaign certainly wouldn’t do any harm.

Already this season, almost every outfield player has missed at least one game through illness or injury and whilst this isn’t an excuse for the side’s dismal string of results thus far, there’s no doubting that it’s been a mitigating factor throughout their 11 losses.

Two positions need strengthening at Old Trafford

Romano took to YouTube to share his understanding of United’s potential winter additions, claiming that the board have held internal talks over striker targets and that they’re mulling over a new defender.

Rasmus Hojlund was acquired in the summer for a whopping £72 million from Atalanta, but the 20-year-old is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League after his first 12 appearances.

In United’s backline, Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans have just returned from their respective layoffs, Victor Lindelof missed the Bournemouth clash with illness and Lisandro Martinez is a long-term absentee.
