Disgraced pundit issues apology after Bruno Fernandes accusation

Disgraced pundit Richard Keys has apologised to Bruno Fernandes after bizarrely suggesting that the Manchester United captain got booked on purpose against Bournemouth to avoid the trip to Liverpool this weekend.

The Portugal international stupidly received a late yellow card for dissent in United’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday. It was the first time the Cherries had won at Old Trafford, which just shows how bad of a result it was for Erik ten Hag as the pressure mounts on the manager.

However, Fernandes’ yellow card was his fifth in the Premier League this season, which means he misses the trip to Anfield.

Speaking after the game, Keys claimed that Fernandes knew what he was doing and wanted to ensure he missed the big game against the Scousers because of last season’s 7-0 defeat.

The wild accusation came as an attempt for publicity – and it’s not the first time Keys, a man who left his wife to marry his daughter’s best friend, has said something ridiculous about United for clicks. Furthermore, we shall not forget this is a man who lost his job at Sky Sports for passing sexist remarks in the workplace.

Keys has now appeared to backtrack somewhat from the claim but still suggested that Fernandes’ actions were ‘irresponsible’, and that isn’t something I feel we can disagree with.

“I’m happy to withdraw the allegation and apologise to Fernandes. Let’s leave it at him being downright irresponsible,” the pundit said in a column on his website.

“Fernandes is such a good player. If he concentrated on doing the opposition damage, with the abundance of talent that he’s got, he’d have far more impact on games – rather than falling over all the time and chipping away at refs.

“They’re onto him. Collapsing holding his shin or face doesn’t work anymore.”

While Fernandes will miss United’s trip to Anfield, he will be available for Tuesday night’s crucial Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.

Hopefully he can silence the critics and United somehow find a way into the last-16.
