Michael Owen questions Erik ten Hag after Bournemouth defeat

Manchester United were left embarrassed at Old Trafford by Bournemouth on Saturday, losing 3-0 with a lacklustre performance that was bound to be criticised by pundits.

It gives the likes of Michael Owen an opportunity to slam the manager but sadly our players are giving him enough ammo to do so by their sheer inconsistency.

The only United player to come out of the game against Bournemouth with credit is Harry Maguire. I thought he was immense at the back but big tests come next week when the Reds face Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

However, against Bournemouth, United were unable to create any clear-cut chances and couldn’t deal with their opponent’s attacking threat.

Erik ten Hag’s side performed out of their skins during the week, winning 2-1 against Chelsea, but they lacked desire and courage yesterday.

Former United striker Michael Owen slammed Ten Hag following the defeat and has claimed that he is not the leading the club into the right direction for the future. He doesn’t believe the team has a clear playing style which is a big criticism faced by the Dutch coach.

“There is no identity in this team whatsoever,” he told Premier League Productions, as quoted by Utd District. “I don’t know what they’re trying to do, counter-attacking, possession team? I’ve got no idea what they are. I’m not convincing by this Man United team at all, and I haven’t been for years now.

“I can’t see Ten Hag being the future of Manchester United. He’s had long enough to have now a clear identity of how they are going to play – and it’s still a total and utter mish-mash of players.”

Again, I feel the team warrants criticism right now and especially for how they lack desire the best of times. But I can’t help but think Owen is overlooking the fact we are without several key players and have been since the beginning of the season.
