Gary Neville has weighed in on the recent reports of the Manchester United squad turning on yet another manager.
This time around, it’s Erik ten Hag who could fall victim to the players’ downing tools.
Of course, there is contrasting speculation that suggests the Dutchman retains the backing of the dressing room, with Sofyan Amrabat claiming last night that they ‘are all behind him’.
It’s seemingly one of those seasons in which the media will be up to their usual tricks after each loss or poor performance. Currently, United are sixth-placed in the Premier League and just three points off of fourth despite sustaining six defeats in their opening 15 matches.
Next week is expected to bring European despair, with the club hoping for a miracle if they want to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League. United’s fate is out of their hands and they could end the week having dropped down to the Europa League.
Neville fumes at dressing room leaks
After such a tumultuous start to the term, Gary Neville discussed the recent affairs in the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
Regarding the reports of a potential dressing room revolt, he said: “The biggest betrayal you can have in football dressing room is when players or players’ representatives are going to the media to undermine the manager and other players.
“Honestly this is f*****g unforgivable. So when I heard these stories coming out I thought ‘Here we go again, the f*****s. They’re at it, they’re going to try and get another manager sacked, another group of players thrown out’.
“You know it’s happening and you can tell it’s been fed and I thought ‘Stop whinging, shut your mouths, work as hard as you can and the day after, come back and do it again’.
“That’s it. I have got some sympathy with them at the moment with the club and how it is with what’s going on, the continual poor recruitment, negativity, bad ownership, lack of sporting department and lack of all the stuff they’ve got.”
