Scott McTominay was quick to share the praise after his scintillating brace picked up a crucial three points for Manchester United against Chelsea.
The midfielder is now United’s top goalscorer in the Premier League with five to his name, outperforming all of the club’s forwards despite playing a deeper role.
He – to nobody’s surprise – was named Player of the Match after he all but took it upon himself to ensure the Reds bounced back at the earliest opportunity from the Newcastle United defeat. To be fair though, with Ally McCoist on commentary, it’s unlikely the Scotland fanatic would’ve even considered giving it to anyone else.
Tonight’s win has moved Erik ten Hag’s men up to sixth place and three points off of rivals Manchester City in fourth; they’re now on a four-game winless streak following a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.
McTominay’s post-match reaction
Reacting to his heroics post-match, McTominay told Amazon Prime Video: “I don’t know [how I’m the top ‘scorer]! I’ve always enjoyed getting in the box and maybe on a different night, I could’ve had maybe one or two more if I calmed down on the last one for my hat-trick, but anyway, that’s football.
“I’m obviously delighted to score two but I felt like all the boys – Antony dos Santos, Bruno [Fernandes], Harry Maguire… I could name a list of players who were world-class tonight. We’ve got to show that consistently, which has not been the case of late.”
