Richard Keys thinks Manchester United should replace Erik ten Hag with former Liverpool star

Former Sky Sports host Richard Keys has had his way on the problems that need fixing at Manchester United – not that many fans will care about what the disgraced presenter has to say about the club.

Keys knows that talking about United will help him gain publicity, so he always seems to have extreme views on things whether it’s the ownership situation, the manager or the players.

His latest rant comes after United’s 1-0 defeat away to Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League. That loss means United sit five points off Aston Villa in fourth place and we’re also sat at the bottom of Group A in the Champions League.

Keys now says it’s time for Erik ten Hag to depart and that United should replace him with former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has guided Bayer Leverkusen to first place in the Bundesliga.

The presenter added that he believes Alonso should be given a five-year guarantee at United, a sense of security he doesn’t feel should be given to Ten Hag.

“What is the answer to what has happened at Manchester United?” Keys asked on beIN Sports. “I thought about that a lot and here is my theory. I would thank the current coach for his time. If I couldn’t go out and get my top target immediately I would then be threading water until I can.

“But the man that I think that Manchester United should get… United are no longer in a position where if top players become available, they are going to sign for United. They are just not going to sign for Manchester United anymore. They can’t go out and do what they once did and sign everybody else’s best player.

“In my view, Manchester United should go now to Leverkusen and they should say to Xabi Alonso: ‘We want you to come to Old Trafford. We will give you Saudi League money and we will guarantee you five years’. Which is what Fergie had when he first went to Manchester United.

“‘Whatever else happens, you have five years to sort this out for us’. And he for me is the individual, the coach, the person that might just be able to get something going.”

Former United striker Dwight Yorke hardly gets a word in, weirdly, but at the end he questions why Keys believes Alonso is suddenly the answer: “Based on what?”

While Alonso has done a good job at Bayer Leverkusen, let’s not kid ourselves with what Keys thinks United should do next because he doesn’t care. It’s no secret that he, and others in the media, prefer it when they can slag United off.

Furthermore, I don’t know any United fans that want Ten Hag sacked. Most of us know the biggest problems exist further above. Firing another manager would be a case of rinse and repeat.
