Odds slashed for David de Gea to join Premier League outfit

During Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, Nick Pope suffered a shoulder injury which could reportedly keep him out for up to five months.

With Pope’s injury, the Magpies have been linked with a move for former United goalkeeper David de Gea.

According to bookmaker Pairimatch, Spain’s former number one is currently priced at 2/1 to make the move to the North East, with his odds dropping from 33/1 at the beginning of last week.

The move has been touted by media outlets, too, though it remains to be seen if Newcastle are serious about signing De Gea or sticking by their number two Martin Dubravka, who had a short stint on loan at Old Trafford last season.

Real Betis are deemed the most likely destination if De Gea decides to return to Spain.

Bizarrely, United are priced at 5/1 to re-sign the keeper, despite signing Andre Onana as their new first choice stopper in the summer.

David de Gea next club odds

  • Real Betis – 1/1
  • Newcastle – 2/1
  • Manchester United – 5/1
  • Any MLS club – 5/1
  • Any Saudi Pro League club – 16/1
  • Any Turkish club – 16/1
  • Bayern Munich – 16/1

Odds are correct at the time of writing.

De Gea is considered a legend at United, but one would not blame him for taking up an offer to join another Premier League club. It would be better – for him – than moving to the Saudi Pro League.
