Manchester United suffered their sixth defeat of the season in the Premier League this weekend as Erik ten Hag’s men were comfortably beaten by Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

United had won five of their previous six games in the Premier League but their promising streak was ended by Newcastle, who have now leapfrogged United in the table.

Newcastle controlled proceedings from start to finish and United ended the game with just one shot on target – an early effort from Alejandro Garnacho.

Although just one goal separated the sides, Newcastle thoroughly deserved all three points and Ten Hag will struggle to sugarcoat this one.

Man United Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 6
Could do very little about the goal in this game.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5
Did alright in some situations but ultimately, he was left exposed by the lack of cover from his winger and was often outnumbered.

Harry Maguire – 7
United’s best player on the day and probably for the last month as well.

Luke Shaw – 6
Back in the side last week and returned to play at centre-back this week. He’s at his best on the left.

Diogo Dalot – 5
Nearly conceded a tragic penalty after clearing the ball onto his own arm.

Scott McTominay – 4
There are certain qualities you cannot deny he is good at but most of the time, he is a passenger and this was another example of just that.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6
Thoroughly impressive against Everton last week but was let down against Newcastle by his team-mates. One of few players to actually put in real effort.

Bruno Fernandes – 5
Not much he can do to have a real impact on the game.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5
Did alright for what he had to work with.

Marcus Rashford – 3
His season is getting worse and worse with each passing week and that is a real concern for Ten Hag.

Anthony Martial – 3
He is not doing a lot to suggest that he’s worth starting.
