Tyrell Malacia has been ruled out of action until early next year after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.
The Netherlands international has had to undergo a second operation to cure a long-standing problem.
Now, Malacia is following a rehabilitation programme at Carrington.
Until now we’ve had few updates on Malacia’s injury because Erik ten Hag doesn’t reveal specific details when it comes to playing that are in the treatment room.
A statement from United on Friday said (via ManUtd.com): “Tyrell Malacia is on course to return to action early next year as he recovers from a knee injury. The Netherlands left-back has not played so far this season following an operation over the summer.
“Unfortunately, he suffered a setback during his rehabilitation, which required further surgery. This has been successfully completed and Malacia is now back at Carrington working hard to be fit early in the New Year.”
The last time Malacia played for United was on the final day of last season and he missed the entire pre-season tour during the summer.
Malacia missed a number of opportunities in recent months to leave his stamp on the team. However, now that Luke Shaw has returned from injury, it won’t be easy for the Dutch full-back to get back into the team.
Even when he returns.
