Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Mason Mount has returned to team training after his latest injury setback, however, he was unable to provide an exact timeframe on his availability.
It was announced prior to the Everton clash that Mount had sustained a calf issue in training, ruling him out of the subsequent games.
Having ended his 18-year ties with Chelsea for a £55 million switch to Manchester United in July, the midfielder has certainly endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford; fresh off the back of his club debut in August, Mount injured his hamstring and was forced to oversee a spell on the sidelines. He went on to miss five matches and upon his return, faced a battle to retain a starting spot.
Now, he is set to be absent for one of the most season-defining periods for United over the festive weeks. Their Champions League fate is now out of their hands and on the horizon are crucial Premier League contests such as Newcastle United (A), Chelsea (H) and Liverpool (A).
Ten Hag on Mount’s injury status
Speaking on the 24-year-old’s status this afternoon, Erik ten Hag told the media (via ManUtd.com): “There are players on the way back but I can’t say now [about the] prognosis on how long it will take.
“Mason Mount is, today, returning on the pitch, but I don’t know how long it will take until he returns [to play]. I can’t say in this moment.”
