Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is expected to leave the club in 2024, as per Florian Plettenberg.

The attack-minded right-back has been on Manchester United’s radar in the past and given his scintillating output from defence along with his staggeringly low release clause of €40 million, igniting a pursuit when the time comes seems a no-brainer.

This term, the 22-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions, returning an impressive six goals and seven assists. Last season, he notched a combined 20 G/A (nine goals and 11 assists).

Frimpong has played a crucial role in a rampant Leverkusen side in 2023/24; the German outfit currently sit atop the Bundesliga and are unbeaten in all competitions as they continue to exceed expectations under Xabi Alonso.

A product of Manchester City’s youth academy, Frimpong really made a name for himself in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, settling in effortlessly and becoming a key starter as the side clinched the league title, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. The Dutchman was named their Young Player of the Year in his first campaign.

United’s current options on the right-hand side of defence are Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and while both have had spells of decent form throughout their Old Trafford careers, neither offer perhaps as much as fans – or Erik ten Hag – would like moving up the pitch.
