Manchester United are open to allowing Anthony Martial to leave in January should an offer arrive that they deem acceptable, as per Football Insider.
The 27-year-old was granted his first start in the Premier League since September 3 on Sunday amid the absence of Rasmus Hojlund, who was ruled out of the Everton clash with injury.
Martial returned Erik ten Hag’s trust with his second goal of the term (all competitions), as he pounced on an inch-perfect pass from Bruno Fernandes and neatly chipped it over Jordan Pickford to round off a 3-0 win and claim all three points at Goodison Park.
With Hojlund since returning to training, it’s expected that the Frenchman will drop down to the bench for United’s penultimate Champions League group-stage contest against Galatasaray tomorrow evening.
The young forward boasts a remarkable five goals in the competition having started from the offset in every game. Meanwhile, Martial has registered one assist in a total of 14 minutes worth of European action.
United’s stance on Martial
As it stands, Martial’s contract will expire at the end of the current season. United hold the option of triggering a one-year extension but could look to cash in while they still can this winter.
Such a situation would then leave the goalscoring burden almost entirely on Hojlund though, hence why the club would then seek to ensure they have a suitable replacement lined up to bolster the frontline for the second half of the term.
