Manchester United are undergoing their final preparations ahead of this evening’s 4.30pm kick-off against Everton.
An irate Goodison Park is ready to protest the side’s 10-point deduction throughout the clash, with the punishment leaving them 19th-placed in the Premier League table.
Erik ten Hag has made three changes from the Red Devils’ last outing – a narrow 1-0 win over Luton Town. Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo all enter the fold to provide a mix of youth and experience in Merseyside.
Shaw returns after a three-month spell on the sidelines due to a muscular injury, while Mainoo makes his first appearance of the 2023/2024 campaign, and supporters have high hopes for what the 18-year-old will bring to the field.
Ten Hag explains team selection
Speaking to Sky Sports regarding his team selection, the Dutch boss said: “Kobbie dropped out of the team in pre-season when he had a bad injury. But he worked hard to get back. Now he’s back and he’s match fit, he’s played some games in the last few weeks so he’s prepared and he’s ready.
“We miss every player but Luke Shaw was [a] massive [miss],” he added “We are very happy he is back because he will definitely contribute to our success. He brings his personality already. He’s a confident player so he’s taking the ball. His defending is very strong. He’s also a player who can help others step up because of his presence.”
