There will be changes made to how the Premier League prize money is shared out between the competing clubs.

For instance, the Premier League’s top clubs are set to be handed a greater proportion of prize money in a move to ease tensions within the competition after Everton’s 10-point deduction for spending breaches, according to the Telegraph.

Under the top tier’s exiting 1.6 to one ratio, treble winners Manchester City earned an estimated £161.3 million last season while Southampton received £100.3 million as the bottom club.

These changes are likely to take place from 2025/26 when the competition’s merit-based system will be worth potentially tens of millions more for the biggest clubs under a new 1.8 to one ratio.

The clubs are set to potentially vote through the long-awaited New Deal For Football on Tuesday. It is believed Manchester United have been at odds with other clubs about how the new solidarity system should be paid for.

It could mean £130 million extra per year for the lower leagues, which is great for the development of the game, but it is said that pressure is mounting on the Premier League after their decision to deduct Everton of 10-points over spending breaches.

This could be the biggest financial shake-up in decades for English football.
