Manchester United have reportedly made contact over a potential transfer for Antoine Griezmann.
It seems a bit far-fetched but Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Premier League for years, although a switch never materialised and he went back to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona and currently holds the captain’s armband.
However, at 32, Griezmann may want to experience life in England before it’s too late and I don’t think United is the best option for that in terms of clubs. We’ve had too many players come to Old Trafford in recent years despite being at the wrong stage of their careers.
In Griezmann’s case, we should be looking for younger options in the transfer market, but that doesn’t change the fact he has scored 12 goals so far this season as well as one assist.
According to El Nacional, United are considering a move for Griezmann and Diego Simeone is worried that his captain could leave the Wanda Metropolitano.
The report states that Griezmann’s most likely destination is MLS or the Saudi Pro League.
That said, El Nacional claim United have already travelled to Madrid in order to convince Griezmann to join their club and help their misfiring attack. They’ve allegedly offered him triple the current salary that he earns at Atleti, which if true, he will accept without second thought.
After all, that is an amount of money Atleti couldn’t afford to pay a player in his early 30s. It means the France international could pocket shy of £18.5 million a year at Old Trafford.
